Improving the tools for the control of the small ruminant lentiviruses (srlv) in sheep and goat

Objective

This project aims to develop, validate and implement a test that detects all European Small Ruminant Lent viruses (SRLVS) in semen, and a test that detects all European SRLV in blood samples. These two tests would be basically variants of the same technique. The major innovation is that the test will detect the presence of the virus itself, and so closes the "serology gap" due to the slow formation of the antibodies once the animals are infected (current tests detect antibodies). The project objectives will be achieved through three main stages (split in sub-tasks): -Design of assay adapted to the specifications, -Development of prototype assay including the related procedures, -Assay simplification and validation (on flocks). The estimated economic impact will be very important for breeders, since SRLV is today the major disease problem for them. If the project is successful, all the goat and sheep industry will be able to produce better quality products at lower cost.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.
