Objective
Tip growth is a type of cellular growth that is represented in many and diverse cell types, which are important to plant breeding (pollen tubes), agriculture (root hairs) and plant and animal pathology (fungal hyphen). The understanding of tip growth forms the basis of the future use of these organisms as model systems for cell growth in basic research as well as for their exploitation in biotechnology and control of the harmful activities. Hitherto there have been very few attempts to bring together diverse approaches on diverse organisms to enhance interdisciplinary studies of the process. We propose to organise a workshop with the best international people working on the different aspects of tip growth. This long-felt need for an international forum will finally be established.
