Improving the performance of wood joinery through vacuum impregnation of wood primers and preservatives in a single treatment process

Objective

The project addresses the need to improve the performance and durability of wooden joinery in order to make it more commercially attractive as a long-term investment. Wood joinery is losing market share to products made from alternative materials at the expense of its environmental credentials. This project will make wood joinery in Europe more competitive by improving its stability and durability through a process of vacuum impregnation of the primer and preservative in single, treatment operation. This will be achieved in a three-stage experimental research programme, which will;
a) develop the process through a selection of compatible products and process schedules
b) Verify its technical benefits and
c) establish its commercial feasibility by establishing an experimental treatment plant. The research will lead to a better public image of wood joinery by improving performance resulting in significant decreases of on-site failures

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
