Development and testing of a thermic cutting device for stalks of vegetable fruits and flowers

Objective

The aim of this project is to prevent the forming and transmission of viral and fungal infections in European greenhouses by developing a technology for sterile thermo cutting stalks of crops. This technology can be used for harvesting of vegetable fruit and flowers as well as for the removal of leaves. The thermo cutting device must have a high processing rate and be perfumed in a simple, ergonomic and safe manner. An average grower, without any technical skills, must be able to benefit its use. The device has to be very cost effective in this of industry. With this thermo cutting device a grower can:
(1) save up to 30% on pesticides costs,
(2) increase the process efficiency with 30% by ergonomic design (no RSI),
(3) decrease production loss due to viral and fungal infections,
(4) slow down the ageing process of harvested crop with a few days. Both growers and the environment will benefit with a successful development of this thermo cutting device.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
