Objective
Farmers have embraced chemical products as essential tools in modern agriculture. However, problems are linked with the intensive use of pesticides in crop protections and especially in greenhouses because these products:
- are not very selective- suffer from the insecticide resistance developed by some pests species- are toxic to vertebrates and humans and can have impact on environment The aim of this project is to develop a new insecticide for agricultural use based on human-safe BIC ingredients allowed for contact with humans and food. BIC (Bio-compatible Insects Controlling Agents) have very interesting properties, which answer to all the previous problems. Despite these, BIC agent are not used in agricultural protection due to:
- Their current low efficiency against foliar pests- Their phototropic damages- Their efficiency depends on the foliar coverage The Research and Development work is needed for ensuring of the efficacy of the new product against foliar pests and crop safety through new formulation (especially based on the composition in gliceridic phase) and through adaptation of the sprayer equipment to the new formulation and to the greenhouses.
