Automatisation of aloe vera gel recovery under inert atmosphere

Objective

Plant based drugs today represent a market share of approx. 30 % of pharmaceuticals. In the cosmetic and wellness sector natural products in general and plants in special become more and more important. Aloe Vera extracts and their derivatives are found in numerous (especially skin care) products. Only extremely low quantities of A. Vera leaves are manually processed to native gel, which has in this form the maximum healing effect. Due to the lack of an appropriate process technology the market is not yet developed. It can be expected that there will be a rising demand for A. Vera gel as there are increasing numbers of sunburns and other skin defects caused by UV irradiation during recent years. In these cases A. Vera gel can be beneficial both in healing acute skin defects and in preventing long term effects like skin cancer. Against the background it is the intention of the two proposes, to develop a new process for the production of high quality Aloe Vera gel with a high degree of purity (99,999%) combining the automated native extraction and the packaging under inert (oxygen-free) conditions.
