Atraumatic system for embryo recovery and transfer in sheep

Objectif

The use of embryo transfer (ET) can increase the rate of genetic development in ovine species. ET is also the most efficient method to move genetics over long distances and, properly managed, embryos are free of production diseases common to sheep. Embryo recovery and transfer in sheep require complete general aesthetic and full abdominal surgery or laparoscopes. So, the risks include other abdominal organs and stress. On the other hand, the success of an ET program will be reduced since these techniques impair the embryo viability. The objective of this project is to develop a non-surgical, Tran cervical technique to recover/pass embryos through the cervix into the uterus. The Tran cervical approach is very difficult in the ewe, because her cervix is small, very collagen us, with a tiny, tortuous path through it to the uterus.
