Assessing factors that affect farmers' willingness and ability to co-operate with biodiversity policies

Objective

Considerations concerning the protection and sustainable management of biodiversity are becoming more important in European agricultural practice. On the ground farming practice has to change, and this requires the co-operation of farmers. Experience in many European countries shows that the willingness of farmers to co-operate can vary greatly from case to case, and cannot be taken for granted. BIO fact will compile and analyse available knowledge about factors influencing farmers' decision making concerning cooperation with biodiversity and conservation policy, and will translate this knowledge into policy relevant tools and instruments. BIO fact will also make inventory of gaps in knowledge, identify priority research needs and stimulate cooperation among researchers, and between researchers and policy makers.
