Objective
OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
This project lies several inter-related principal aims and targeted achievements:
1) To undertake a strategic evaluation of the ecological and socio-economic value of exclusion zones as a tool of fisheries management and to develop a robust multi-disciplinary analytical framework which can be readily used for their evaluation and development in Europe.
As components of this, the project aims to:
i) appraise current and past initiatives within Europe and outside Europe and synthesise this previously disparate research
ii) extract front this experience common attributes and the factors which serve to distinguish different exclusion zones and their value and performance in respect of fisheries management
iii) elicit the ecological and socio-economic value of exclusion zones as a tool of fisheries management (by type, case study and key characteristics)
iv) evaluate the potential for wider application within European fisheries management
