Objective
The objective of the present project is to provide general information on the aetiology, life cycle and produced pathology of the different coccidian species parasites of the largest commercially exploited fish populations in the North East Atlantic Ocean at Ibero-Atlantic waters: Micrornesistius poutassou, Trisopteres luscus Trachuru trachurus, Sardina pilchardus,Scomber scombrus, Brama brama, Lepidorhombus whiffiagonis Platichthys flexus ans Scophtalmus maximus. Epidemiological studies for each of the parasitic host species analysed will be carried out and the relationship of the parasitic intensity with different condition index will be analysed.
This will be of interest for the knowledge of the detrimental effect of the coccidiosis in fish condition, and therefore of the possibility of application in fisheries and mariculture. The results of this project will be compiled in order to the possibility of application for a better knowledge, evaluation and regulation of the fisheries.
