Objective
Vita MAP will provide a new generation of You Are Here maps to be installed in the public place. The project will address the need for access to information by all, particularly for people with visual, cognitive and reading impairments. The approach will be to integrate a range of technologies and materials in a compatible way, using laboratory and field tests and trials. The novelty of the project will be to combine several existing and new technologies within an inclusive design concept incorporating sight, touch and sound to produce unaffordable end product. Building on the existing Tactile Colour system (which enables people with visual impairments to identify colours and information by touch, using textures) is fundamental to this, as is the need to control lighting and audio delivery to meet individual requirements and situations. The information needs to be clearly visible and distinctively tactile, with easily understandable and navigable audio facilities.
