Intelligent Freight Train

Objective

The project's direct target is to create the functional specification basis for an innovative rail freight transport concept able to efficiently comply to customers' and operators' needs.
The project aims at studying operational problems in the field of railway freight transport where technology could be used for automation and "intelligent rail freight system".
The project focuses on "intelligent" telematic tools on-board of rail freight wagon and train and on train-ground data exchange which could improve a cost effective and competitive organisation of a new Transport system.
An operational concept enabling efficient use of advanced technology for complying to operators' and customers' requirements.
Functional specifications and architecture of the operational system.
Functional requirements for sub-systems and system components.
Assessment and proof of technical and economic feasibility.
Recommendations for use of technology in the organisational framework aiming at supporting the free access to infrastructure and the improved management of freight transports on rail.
Recommendations for consistent validation of technical solutions, economic use and standardisation.

Links with other projects, tasks, areas, programmes, policy actions:

INTELFRET is complementary to projects EUFRANET and HISPEEDMIX and implements co-ordination and
co-operation with these projects in order to achieve a common market survey and use of a common methodology
for evaluation.
INTELFRET has links to the following projects: ERTMS/ETCS ; MORANE; ROSIN; GNSS (DGXIII).
Automatic Vehicle identification system of UIC is meant to be an important subsystem in the info chain of INTELFRET.
At its applicationlevel INTELFRET is linked to the telematic applications of the freight transport of railways (HIPPS, ORPHEUS, HERMES, RAILDATA, EDIFER). The positive experience of these application and the extensive use of the current data bases and data exchange sstems will be considered.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
