Objective
THE PROJECT IS AIMED AT DEVELOPING AND VALIDATING A CONDITION ASSESSMENT METHOD OLOGY WHICH HAS IMPROVED PREDICTABILITY, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY FOR :
- THE PREDICTION OF REMANENT LIFE,
- THE DETERMINATION OF THE INTEGRITY
OF HIGH TEMPERATURE PRESSURE PARTS BY INTEGRATED POST-SERVICE EVALUATION TECHNI QUES.
Condition assessment methodology with improved predictability, accuracy, and reliability for the prediction of remanent life and the determination of the integrity of high temperature pressure parts by integrated post-service evaluation techniques has been developed and validated. Materials covered are the low alloy ferritic steels 2.25CrMo and 0.5CrMoV including weldments.
A useful database of creep-rupture properties, with associated metallographic information, has been generated. Using these data, a mechanistic creep model has been further developed and refined to a level of predictive capability which is useful for plant assessment. A miniature-specimen, constant strain rate test machine has been designed, built and operated successfully. A photogrammetry camera and target system has been devised, which performs well in the laboratory and has been demonstrated on plant.
Methods for weldment assessment based on metallographic quantification of creep cavitation on strain accumulation have been developed.
Integration of all techniques in a flexible assessment package has been achieved and demonstrated under field conditions.
THE PROJECT IS RELEVANT TO HIGH TEMPERATURE COMPONENTS IN PETROCHEMICAL POWER AND PROCESS PLANT. MATERIALS COVERED ARE THE LOW ALLOY FERRITIC STEELS, 2 1/4 CR MO AND 1/2 CR MO V.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
