Objective
THE AIM OF THIS PROJECT WILL BE TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ON THE NATURE AND THE RAPIDITY OF THE VARIOUS CHEMICAL, PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL DEGRADATION PROCESSES WHICH CAN OCCUR IN POLYPROPYLENE FABRICS AND OTHER NON-WOVEN MATERIALS. IN ADDITION, MEASURING METHODS WHICH ARE SPECIFIC FOR THE DEFINITION OF THE EFFECT OF THESE PARAMETERS WILL BE DEVELOPED.
GEOTEXTILES AND GEOMEMBRANES ARE WOVEN AND NON-WOVEN SHEETS OF MATERIAL WHICH ARE USED IN A VARIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND MINING APPLICATIONS AS FLEXIBLE BARRIERS FOR SUPPORT AND CONTAINMENT. TYPICAL APPLICATIONS INCLUDE TIDAL BARRAGES, EMBANKMENTS, ROADS AND VIRTUALITY ANY OPERATION IN WHICH MASSIVE EXCAVATION IS REQUIRED. THEIR PROPERTIES, HOWEVER, HAVE TO BE CLOSELY DEFINED IN TERMS OF PERMEABILITY (TO ALLOW ADEQUATE WATER SEEPAGE, FOR EXAMPLE), STRENGTH, TOUGHNESS, SUCSCEPTIBILITY TO ENVIRONMENTAL ATTACK, EASE OF HANDLING IN LARGE QUANTITIES AND INEXPENSIVE TO PRODUCE. THEIR APPLICATION HAS RECENTLY BECOME MORE EXTENSIVE.
RESEARCH WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON POLYMER BASED SYSTEMS, PRODUCTION ADDITIVES AND PROCESS CONTROL METHODS GIVING GEOTEXTILES THE NECESSARY CHARACTERISTICS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW APPLICATIONS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING AND IN OTHER FIELDS.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
