Objective
A new highly computerized system has been developed for the machining of metal parts, as a result of this research. The system integrates process planning and NC programming with enhancements to improve manufacturing accuracy and economy and optimize cutting conditions to save time and money.
PROCESS PLANNING GENERATED AUTOMATICALLY BY COMPUTER FROM A DESCRIPTION OF THE PART TO BE PRODUCED IS A KEY ELEMENT TO COMPUTER INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS.
THE PROJECT INTENDS TO DEVELOP A COMMON CODING SCHEME FOR TRANSLATING THE DRAWING SPECIFICATIONS OF A PART INTO COMPUTER INTERPRETABLE DATA, FOR BOTH GENERATIVE PROCESS PLANNING AND NC TAPE PREPARATION. DESIGN RULES WILL BE ESTABLISHED TO MAKE THE SYSTEM ADAPTABLE TO DIFFERENT MANUFACTURING ENVIRONMENTS. MACHINING PROCESS OPTIMIZATION STRATEGIES WILL BE IMPLEMENTED INTO THE SYSTEM.
BY AUTOMATING THE FUNCTIONS OF PROCESS PLANNING AND NC PROGRAMMING AND BY INTEGRATING THEM INTO A UNIQUE SOFTWARE SYSTEM, THE PROJECT AIMS TO INCREASE THE PRODUCTIVITY AND THE COST EFFECTIVENESS OF ENGINEERING DRAWING FOR FINISHED PARTS.
