STUDY OF A MODULAR DEVICE PERMITTING AUTOMATIC RECOGNITION OF FLEXIBLE MATERIAL DEFECTS

Objective

This project succeeded in developing a prototype inspection system for textiles, which operates at industrial speeds. The software and hardware produced allow high-speed inspection of wide format fabrics.

BASED ON THE USE OF A CAMERA THE DETECTION WILL FIRST BE APPLIED TO STRUCTURAL DEFECTS OF SINGLECOLOURED FABRICS WITH A RECOGNITION OF THE TYPE OF DETECTED DE FECT.

SOME PRELIMINARY TESTS PERFORMED ON SHORT WIDTH FABRICS (20 CM) HAVE SHOWN THE FEASIBILITY OF DEFECT DETECTION ON MATERIALS MOVING AT THE RATE OF 40 M/MIN BY MEANS OF A CAMERA.

THEN THE DETECTION OF STRUCTURAL DEFECTS AND DESIGN DEFECTS WILL BE UNDERTAKEN ON MATERIALS WITH DIFFERENT COLOURED ELEMENTS, FOR INSTANCE DYED YARN FABRICS.
DETECTION ON AN INSPECTION TABLE FOR EXAMPLE SHOULD SHOW THE REAL TIME IDENTIFI CATION AND CLASSIFICATION OF DIFFERENT DEFECTS AS WELL AS THE CHARACTERISTICS O F EACH DEFECT ON THE TESTED MATERIALS.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.
