Objective
The main objective is to define methods by which the suitability of alternative materials for use in road construction can be evaluated.
Within this ultimate objective, there are a number of particular objectives:
(1) develop methods for simulated field tests;
(2) determine mechanisms and rates of release of contaminants from alternative materials in road construction;
(3) establish standard laboratory leaching tests for alternative materials;
(4) determine appropriate mechanical and hydrodynamic tests for alternative materials;
(5) prepare a specification for full scale trial embankments;
(6) compare potential pollution with that from other sources; and
(7) consider mitigation measures where possible.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
