Objective
THE ANALYTICAL STUDY IS COMPLEMENTING THE WORK CARRIED OUT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HANNOVER, WHICH IS DESCRIBED IN THE REPORT EUR 10165. THE WORK RELATES TO COUNTER CURRENT GAS/LIQUID FLOWS IN VERTICAL DUCTS, COUNTER CURRENT WATER/STEAM FLOWS IN REACTOR ASSEMBLY MODELS AND THE DETERMINATION OF THE SIZE OF DROPS PRODUCED IN SUCH FLOWS.
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSED STUDY IS TO DETERMINE THE ABILITY OF SAFETY CODES TO SIMULATE COUNTER FLOWS AT THE UPPER END OF THE ASSEMBLY (I.E. TOP NOZZLE). THE WORK IS PERFORMED IN COLLABORATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF PISA.
SINCE THE PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH IS TO DETERMINE THE SUITABILITY OF THE SAFETY CODES FOR THE SIMULATION OF CURRENT COUNTER FLOW AT THE UPPER END OF THE ASSEMBLIES ("TOP NOZZLE") AND SINCE THE RESEARCH IS BEING PERFORMED IN COOPERATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF PISA, THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUVAIN IS DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1.- DETAILED CRITICAL REVIEW OF THE RESEARCH REPORT FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF HANNOVER:
A) IN ORDER TO BRING TO LIGHT THE COMMON ASPECTS AND THE SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF THE RESULTS OF THAT RESEARCH IN RELATION TO THOSE PREVIOUSLY KNOWN;
B) IN ORDER TO SELECT A REPRESENTATIVE SERIES OF TEST CASES (BENCHMARK CASES) WHICH COULD BE SIMULATED BY MEANS OF THE CATHARE CODE.
2.- PRELIMINARY CALCULATIONS CONCERNING THESE TEST CASES IN ORDER TO VERIFY THE SUITABILITY OF THE MAIN AVAILABLE MODELS FOR PREDICTING THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS.
3.- THEORETICAL STUDY OF THE SUITABILITY OF THE MODELS INCORPORATED IN THE CODES CATHARE AND RELAP 5/MOD 2 FOR PREDICTING THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS.
