A COORDINATED STUDY OF THE ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE OF METAL-METAL AND METAL-SEMICONDUCTOR INTERFACES

Objective

A fully operational instrument has been constructed for the measurement of laser excited second harmonic generation (SHG). An electron spectrometer has also been constructed for specimen characterisation.
A coordinated study using a variety of complimentory experimental techniques will be made of the electronic structure of metal-semiconductor and meatl-metal interfaces. The techniques will include second Harmonic Generation, Auger spectroscopy, inverse photoemission and synchroton techniques such as x-ray absorption and photoelectron spectroscopy. Cooperation between Irish, English, Dutch and Italian groups will make it possible to carry out experiments over long periods on the Daresbury synchroton.
