CONSTRUCTION OF AN ISOCHRONOUS CYCLOTRON WITH SUPERCONDUCTIN G COILS FOR LIGHT AND HEAVY IONS

Objective

The goal of the project is to construct an isochronous cyclotron with superconducting coils suitable for the acceleration of light and heavy ions. The project is a collaboration between the Institut de physique nucleaire at Orsay, France and the Kernfysich Versneller Instituut at Groningen, The Netherlands. The machine will be constructed at Orsay and after its completion in1991 moved to Groningen. The first phase, the detailed design of the machine has been finished and the project is now in its second phase, the actual construction of the various sub-systems.
