Objective
A comprehensive database has been developed which contains as many different parameters as possible on the same set of fricative items. A model of the vocal tract has also been completed (SIMOND).
The objective of the collaboration is to contribute to the systematisation of speech knowledge through a detailed study of fricative consonants in a constrastive approach (produced by two speakers, one French and one English). The fricatives to be studied are an important class of speech sounds involving turbulence, which has not been sufficiently investigated to date. Complementary expertise and facilities already developed in the laboratories will be used to describe the structure of the production system for fricatives and used as input to models of speech production. Output from the models will be assessed in relation to the natural speech.
