LOW ENERGY ANTIPROTON PHYSICS

Objective

Research has been carried out on models of proton antiproton annihilation leading to final states with pions and kaons. It has been shown that the annihilation proceeds via the creation of doorway states of heavier mesons which then decay into the ultimate multipion multikaon final states.

Work on photonuclear sum rules has clarified the issue of interpreting the meaning of the different magnitudes entering into the sum rate.

Subthreshold production of antiprotons in proton nucleus and nucleus nucleus collisions has been studied.
This project proposal concentrates on the detailed investigation of antiprotonproton annihilation mechanisms at low energy, in close contact with experimental developments at the LEAR facility at CERN/Geneva. It is based on a collaboration of the research groups in Valencia and Regensburg headed by Profs. E. Oset and W. Weise.
