SYNTHESIS REACTIVITY AND POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS OF NEW MOLECULAR RECEPTORS BASED ON CALIXARENE TYPE SUBUNITS

Objective

properties of complexation can be used to design chemical tools or chemical systems, molecules or assemblies of molecules with predetermined chemical or physical properties. Specific targets in the projects will be, carriers in membrane systems, sensory molecules in ion selective electrodes (ISE) and ion sensitive field effect transistors (ISFET), and sequestering molecules with high selectivity and high kinetic stability. The latter will be useful for detoxification processes and in diagnostic or therapeutic techniques (with radioactive isotopes in the complexes).
The synthesis of modified calixarenes and of more sophisticated compounds containing (several) calixarene subunits and be the use of these molecules as molecular templates for synthetic receptore will be investigated. Stepwise synthesis, selective modification, introduction of additional binding sites, and coupling with a second calixarene or other molecular entities will be carried out at Mainz, Cork, Parma and Twente. Molecular catalysis of calixarene complexes with cations and neutral molecules will be studied in Rome. Possible applications of the novel molecules in chemical systems will be investigated e.g. membranes, sensors.
Molecular mechanics and dynamics will be done at Parma and Twente.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
