Objective
CANDIDA ALBICANS is a major opportunistic pathogen of humans and an increasingly important model for studies on cellular differentiation. A series of new research programmes on CANDIDA and candidosis is proposed by linking eleven european centres of special expertise by exchanges of personnel, probes and methodologies. These would focus on physiopathologically active glycoproteins, with the aim of defining the relations between their structure and function, both within the fungal cell and in pathological processes. Compnents of the collaborative programme would include glycosylation, excretion and regulation mechanism, role in morphodifferentiation, adherence, pathogenesis, pathology and diagnosis.
