RECONSTRUCTION AND MODERNISATION OF AN OFFICE BUILDING IN COLOGNE

Objective

To demonstrate, that such systems, refurbishing an existing office building in a very favorite, sunny position, is about to be economical, because of the use of economic large area PV modules and because of the use of small series produced modular inverters.

Large area PV modules are integrated into small the facade of an existing 10-story office building in Cologne as part of the refurbishment of the building.
The PV generator has a nominal power of 87 kWp, but in fact because of the vertical and non-south orientation of the modules, the maximum output power is expected not to exceed about 57 kWp. PV modules are put onto the South, East and West facades. The North facade is cladded with dummy panels.
The system employs 44 small single phase dc/ac inverters each rated at 1.1 kW (overload capacity 1.3 kW).
Nr. of subsystems : 1
Power of subsystems : 87 kWp
Total power : 87 kWp
Backup : grid
Nr. of modules : 792 (440 on south facades, 176 each on east and west facade)
Module description : SIEMENS, monocrystalline, frameless laminates with 72 cells each, 1350 x 720 mm, 110 Wp
Connection : two modules in series (72 V)
Support : on three facades, as ventilated curtain facade
Max. power tracker : yes, integrated in the inverters
Charge control : none
Battery : none
Inverter : SIEMENS, PWM inverters with integrated MPP,
94% efficiency at partial load between 20 and 50% of nominal,
92% efficiency at partial load between 50 and 80% of nominal.
Total number of inverters: 44
Inv. in (V) : 55 to 80 V dc (up to 120 V)
Inv. out (V) : sinusoidal
Inv. power (kW) : 1.1
Load description : to grid, via three collectors
Monitoring : irradiance, temperatures and global ac-power per facade. (No dc-monitoring).
In order to monitor these data it is necessary to assemble the ac outputs. (In a non-monitored version the inverters would be coupled directly into the nearest office outlet plug).

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
