Objective
The aim of this project is the demonstration of PV Hybrid system technology to successfully cover a variety of typical load profiles in a total of 7 subprojects. Six of these subprojects are stand alone systems, whitout any connection to the utility grid. Before carrying out this project the energy was exclusively supplied by dieselgenerators. As the objects are restaurants, camping sites or private houses including appartments which are rented out, they are idealy suited for the demonstration and dissemination of the new technologies.
All 7 subprojects are operating well
Within the ARES project a total power 20 kWp were installed. It was intended to develop new design criteria for PV Hybrid systems. Furthermore the avoidance of the diesel generators should prove that PV systems are able to provide electricity with a very high reliability. Since the 7 subprojects are different in their size, their power requirements and their natural - renewable - energy ressources, it was impossible to design a standard system size but to use standardized components.
All the subprojects are of great touristic interest. One appartment house was already connected to the utility grid and received therefore a grid-connected PV system. The stand alone systems are equipped with a solar generator, a charge controller and a battery. In some cases a wind generator or a back-up diesel motor supports the PV generator; A novel designed EMS takes control over the energy flow in the system. At the grid connected systems the PV generator is directly coupled with the utility grid via the inverter. In this system the EMS takes control over the operation (time and duration) of some of the consumers.
osed to evaluate the novel inverters
selected for some of the sites as an innovative Energy Management System.
