USE OF SOLAR ENERGY TO HEAT BENCHES FOR THE CULTIVATION OF VEGETABLES AND FLOWERS IN GREENHOUSE

Objective

The experimental floral centre located in the Toscana area aims to demonstrate the use of solar assisted heated flower beds. Flat plate collections are used to heat a hot water tank which also has an auxiliary gas or oil furnace. The solar contribution is calculated to be about 30%. The system is innovative but still in the R&D stage.

The project consists of a simple solar system with 2 rows of solar collectors (each row has 40 collectors), a storage tank and the end user. The end user are benches which should be maintained at 22 deg. C.
The control of the solar system is such that the solar heat is transfered to the storage tank or directly to the end user. In case of insufficient solar heat, an auxiliary heater, branched to the storage tank, takes over.
The total annual heat needs are 200 Gcal. The installed solar system power is 70.000 kcal/h and the auxiliary heater has 50.000 kcal/h.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
