PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER STATION ELBSPEICHER HAMBURG

Objective

A 50 kWp PV generator will be installed in an historic facade of 4 storeys. The building is 120 years old and is situated in the Hamburg fish market. The project will promote architectural integration of PV in buildings, and will play an important role in future campaigns by Greenpeace to promote PV energy. In particular, the project will demonstrate the integration of PV into facades which are considered as historic. The existing power to the building comes from a district CHP system which will be partly displaced, reducing CO2 production, especially in summer when the CHP plant is less energy efficient.

Installation of 50 kWp PV laminates tilted 25 deg. southwards on top of the 120 year old "Elbspeicher" building, integrated in shed-constructions, in combination with district heating by KWK units. PV generator : 32.8 kW 259 m2 and 17.2 kW 136 m2, Voc = 400 V 14% efficiency, Siemens Solar M110
Inverter : 50 kW, 90% efficiency, 3 x 400 V out.
Installation : to be completed by June 1996
Monitoring : according to Ispra guidelines.
