PV POWERED AIRPORT SIGNALLING LIGHTS

Objective

To equip small tourist airports with runway border lights for visual navigation at night or during bad weather conditions.
The system continues to work satisfactorily. The success is evidenced by the very high reliability of the system. The system is pantented under the number 48289 A/90. It has been demonstrated, that it is possible to implement with pv-systems at reasonable costs fixed and/or transportable and reliable runway lights for airports.
About sixtysix 50 Watt floodlight lamps mark both borders of the runway of the small airport LUCCA. In order to avoid costly and unreliable cabling, each one of the lamps, distant about 60 meters from each other, is supplied by its own pv power source (battery, control, telecommunication electronics included). The lamps can be turned on and off and intensity regulated (five steps) by remote radio control (CTC) in the VHF band with FSK modulation from the aircraft or the tower. The CTC contains a data processor, and exists twice (for reliability reasons) for each lamp unit (containing a spare bulb.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
