Objective
The importation of illegal substances such as Narcotics and Explosives into the EC is a serious problem. There is need for more sophisticated instrumentation required for the identification of these substances during intelligence based or routine inspection by customs officials. It is our aim to develop a prototype portable instrument that will be capable of locating organic materials in enclosed or inaccessible places. Once located, to analyse and identify those organic materials and alerting the customs officials of any "undesirable substances". The collaboration will consist of four partners who together will develop the various components necessary to achieve the stated objective.
