Objective
OBJECTIVES
The objectives are to develop simultaneously three parallel complementary tools:
* a pertinent and scientific methodological approach for the electromagnetic perturbation susceptibility analysis of a given site,
* a self-contained and portable equipment used for the simulation of an external electromagnetic source on the site,
* a computer code taking into account the electrical characteristics of the essential functions of the site allowing the calculation of the transient levels appearing on specific equipment.
These three tools will be applied and validated on three different sites. Some conclusions will be drawn for the definition or improvement of electromagnetic protection applied to a particular site.
State of progress
The kick-off meeting took place at ONERA on January 22 and activities were planned for the first year. Five technical meetings were organised for WP1, WP2, WP3 and WP4 with the different partners. WP1 concerning the industrial impact analysis was completed and WP2 will be achieved October 15. Standards and rules currently used were analysed; a questionnaire was prepared and sent to different targeted firms in Europe; qualitative and quantitative data have been obtained. The methodology to be applied on industrial sites has been analysed regarding several aspects as: critical functions, susceptible equipment, cable routes configurations; the specifications for the testing equipment (i.e. peak current, wave form, ...) are now defined.
Background
Various sites of activity such as airports, industrial plants, hospitals, commercial zones may be severely affected by electromagnetic sources and particularly by direct of indirect lightning strikes. Even if electromagnetic protections are already recommended and installed on susceptible sites, the European technical community has no tool for the evaluation of the electromagnetic susceptibility of a given site to electromagnetic interferences and for the optimisation of a reasonable protection.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
