Objective
The objective of the cooperative research, for wich an exploratory award is here requested, will be to develop an apparatus for counting the microorganism possibly present in liquids, differentiating them in the more important pathogenic species. Main features of this apparatus will be its low cost, easy operating and the capability to give microbiological methods. This apparatus will be used in the microbiological control of water destined for human use, bathing, aquaculture and for monitoring food manufacturing and pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. The apparatus will be composed of 1) an electronic device to detect the physic-chemical modification due to the microbial metabolism occuring in the disposable reaction tube and a recording and printing device; 2) a disposable and sterelised reaction tube, containing the special reagent, to be filled with the sample. All steps of making the electronic device and the disposable reaction tubes will be covered by European SMEs active in electronics and electro-medical production. The apparatus is supposed to be utilised by private as well as official laboratories but in any case it can be handled by non-expert personnel in view of the simplicity of operation
