Objective
The design of footwear for elderly people has to facce with important differences of the elderly compared to "normal" adult's. Some important differences are changes in the gait pattern (less energeric, more unstable) and changes in the feet caused by the ageing process. the goal of the project is, first of all, to establish the shoe parameters which determine the correct fitting, the comfort, the functionality and the safety level of shoes for the elderly. Secondly, this information will be used to develop improved elderly foot wear considering anatomical and physiological issues in the design. On the basis of these scientific results, the participating industrial partners will be able to adapt their products to the special needs of this growing group of population and thereby contributing not only to the foot health but also to the general health of the elderly.
