Accuracy verification of co-ordinate measuring machines, of all sizes, types and configurations, using lasers and a universal artefact

Objective

The investigation of performance verification of co-ordinate measuring machines, of all types, sizes and configurations, with a view to: 1. Proposing new simplified test procedures for accuracy verification of CMMs 2. Designing a novel, single, universal artefact for use on all CMMs 3. Refining test procedures by applying them to all CMMs of all sizes and working volumes from conventional CMMs through to stand alone, mobile and flexible arm machines 4. Evaluating the newly proposed test procedures at established CMM manufacturers and user companies throughout Europe 5. Submitting the new test procedures to the ISO committee for discussion and eventual adoption. In performing this work the following work item will be performed on an on-going basis: 6. To assess the problems with the existing artefact based methods of test, for conventional CMMs, according to ISO 10360 (BS6808).
