Objective Research is required to build on current knowledge of electro-optical technology to develop electric and magnetic field probes for use in areas where detailed analysis of electromagnetic fields is required. The aim is to develop small, passive, non-metallic, probes for near-field measurement. Specifications of minimum performance will be set in terms of sensitivity, dynamic range and frequency coverage. A 24 month research programme is envisaged to produce laboratory tested prototypes.
