Methods for European Surveys of Travel Behaviour

Objective

Main objectives:

The project aims to achieve its final objective in a series of stages, which will also serve as its central milestones:
- First draft of a new European long-distance travel diary based on a careful assessment of current practise and current data needs
- Second draft of a new European long-distance travel diary based on a first round of empirical work focusing on question understanding and preferred survey format testing alternatives derived from the first draft
- Improved sampling schemes will be developed to reduce the costs of travel diary research
-Final draft of a new European long-distance travel diary based on a first pilot of alternatives derived from the second draft
- Improved weighting and correcting methods will be developed to improve the accuracy and reliability of the travel diary data. This work will include an analysis of non-response and underreporting
- Suggested new European long-distance travel diary based on a second pilot of alternatives refined from the final draft and informed by the work on sampling and weighting
