Transport Information Systems Policies

Objective

The main objective of the project is the provision of Transport policy requirements for the integration of information, communication and navigation technology in transport and transportation and in particular to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of political actions related to the integration of information, communication and navigation services. Emphasis will also be placed on global navigation (GNSS) and comprehensive payment systems in comparison to existing or emerging alternatives.To achieve this goal major objectives will be:

A. to address all aspects of potential interest for policy actions or measures related to this issue.
B. to provide information resulting from the assessment of those aspects structured in a way which will
be easily accessible for policy decision makers.
C. to deliver a framework for policy assessment based on a study of possible scenarios, impacts and the
need for more consistency in EU policies.
D. to define consolidated functional, social, organizational and institutional requirements with special
attention being paid to user views and transport policy needs.
E. to provide more in-depth knowledge of the strategic importance of GNSS for Trans European
Networks and to identify the potential policy options using satellite based systems to enhance and
improve European Transportation Systems.
F. to make recommendations and propose the most appropriate actions and measures for developing an
information, communication and navigation service environment which will support the Common
Transport Policy (CTP).
