Objective
The specific objectives of this project are to produce key modelling elements for forecasting passengers and freight within a suitable modelling framework, in such a way that it can be extended subsequently into a European Transport Model Methodology for forecasting traffic and congestion on the Trans European Networks.
The research will define the data collection methodologies required for the collection of specific types of data and will develop analytical methodologies needed to interpret the data.
The project will:
- develop an overall modelling framework within which various levels of data can be manipulated to solve specific problems;
- develop a typology of methodologies for building origin destination matrices of passengers and test two of these methodologies by means of case studies;
- develop a methodology for collecting data on freight flows directly from the computer systems owned by transport operators / shippers;
- develop a methodology for building origin-destination matrices of freight from a survey of shippers and undertake a case study.
