Objective
The main objectives of the PASTEUR concerted action are:
* to provide a full and transparent overview of current and past research in the fields of the concerted action;
* to integrate research at the European and other authority levels, in order to come to general conclusions regarding research needs and efficient policies;
* to summarize and disseminate the relevant results of the 4th framework research, and other (e.g. national), research programmes;
* to establish links with other projects in the fields of policy assessment;
* to address Central and Eastern European experts and Institutions and research programmes (e.g PHARE, INTAS, TACIS);
* to contribute to standardisation and harmonisation of statistical sources for transport research at the European level;
* to explore implementation issues (both technical and operational);
* to organise stimulating, creative and efficient meetings with the Member States, in which new technological and visualisation options are used to the maximum extent;
* to provide the Commission with an expert group in which actual questions can be added when PASTEUR inputs are needed on new issues;
* to disseminate the results of the PASTEUR action both within the EU and towards a broad public to the maximum extent;

There are links with all the relevant concerted actions in the 4th framework programme - relating to Policy Assessment, Scenarios., Transport Economics and Technology Integration. In addition, links are present with other EU 4th Framework projects (non-DGVII, in particular DGXIII), the PHARE, INTAS and TACIS programmes oriented on Central-European, Eastern-European and CIS countries as well as national research programmes, having strong links with national and European authorities and research councils. Furthermore, the members are active participants in expert networks at the European level as ESF, NECTAR, RSA, COST 328. PASTEUR will e.g. involve the new SCAST (Social Change and Sustainable Transport) programme of the ESF-NSF in order to orient itself also to upcoming Trans-Atlantic initiatives.
