Objective
Ferrofluids consisting of small alpha-iron particles (5 mm diameter) in mercury have been prepared using an electrolytic method. Magnetisation measurements and Mossbauer spectroscopy have been carried out. Metallic ferrofluids are of great technological interest because they can be used in situations where good electrical and thermal conductivities are of paramount importance.
