Objective
In order to study the seismotectonics of the Aegean, a temporary seismological network of more than 50 stations was installed. In total, about 3000 earthquakes were recorded and about 300 focal mechanisms were computed.
Seismicity was located with an order of magnitude more precision than previously. Because of the dense network of stations, earthquakes could be located with direct waves.
The pattern of focal mechanisms is complex because of the complex strain pattern, but some logic can be seen.
