DEVELOPMENT OF A SEISMIC TECHNOLOGY TO BE USED FOR HYDROCARBON EXPLORATION IN THE PRE-PERMIAN BASINS

Objective

Testing of a geophysical method applying the latest advances of technology (high power vibrators and telemetering laboratory) in order to resume prospection for hydrocarbons in the ante-permian coal basins.
The two western profiles (1-2) were disappointing and yielded no geological data owing to their mediocre quality. On the contrary, the acquisition of the eastern profiles (3-4) was highly encouraging: a geological model was built developing regional knowledge of the structural geology. Profile 4 however showed the limits of conventional processing in complex tectonics.
These results show that the geophysical method used is not universal in nature, being a sucess in east and a failure in the west.
This disparity illustrates the difficulties of seismics in a region with a complicated geology.
Additional studies are needed, first to refine the working tool and secondly, to specify the geological models improving, among other things, the scattered disordered reflectors beneath the midi fau.
4 test lines oriented perpendicular to the major geological accident in the region were recorded along the following profiles:
Profile 1: saint-omer region
Profile 2: arras region
Profile 3: cambrai region
Profile 4: valenciennes region.
