Objective
First, definition of the calculation tools and study of the components necessary to design and build floating platforms for industrial applications and secondly, development of a design of a floating platform for exploitation of oil field in deep waters.
The platform design has been checked through extensive model basin tests. The proposed anchoring system which eliminates the need for critical components considerably increases the reliability of such types of platforms. Since 1982 agip and tecnomare have started working on a joint research project devoted to the development of the pratical technology for the industrial application of the concept in very deep mediterranean waters.
After a comparative analysis of different concepts and configurations, a (tension leg) platform was identified as the most suitable. The main data assumed for the design were: (north sea) water depth: 600 m; payload: 26,000 Tons. The platform configuration presents the following characteristics: (a) semi -submersible type, with four columns connected by a lattice structure; (b) anchoring system composed of 6 pipes for each column connecting the column to the relevant foundation base; (c) anchoring pipes
assembled, by automatic welding, during base lowering; (d) lower and upper ends of pipes rigidly constrained and shaped in such a way as to absorb bending movements.
