Objective
In 1975, three articulated columns have been installed in the north sea. This type of marine structure appeared very attractive for the production of hydro-carbons after which a research programme was carried out, the aim of which was to find new types of application. Work has mainly dealt with the association of a mono-articulated column to a floating vessel and extension of articulated columns to deeper waters.
This research program improved the knowledge and design of articulated columns. Although no application as a permanent mooring device has occured yet, some results obtained through this contract have been used for industrial application.
The present research programme has then allowed to perform :
. The application study of articulated columns in deeper waters, taking into account dynamic phenomena. Adapted computation-tools were developed for this applications.
. Study of the association to a floating vessel, able to support production facilities and-or to act as storage unit. A general design studdy, model tests and technological studies led to the consideration of permanent mooring of a semi-submersible or a tanker to a monoarticulated column.
. Applications already studied, such as the production column or the workover column and technological tests were developed.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
