WATERTIGHT SHELTERS FOR SUB SEA WELLHEADS

Objective

Design concrete shells for the protection and maintenance of subsea well heads for different conditions of exploitation.

The shell has the form of a multicellular concrete structure with a central corridor surrounded by several independent cells, isolated by floodable chambers. Each cell houses a subsea well head. The central corridor is divided in two levels where pipes and manifolds are housed. A flodable chamber fitted at one end of the corridor allows access to the shelter. The top of each cell is fitted with a watertight steel plug for drilling of well and installation of well head.
After completion, it is closed in order to allow further dewatering for human access and works. Concrete has been selected for this project because of its resistance to hydrostatic pressures, corrosion and fatigue.
