Objective
The project was aiming at the design of self-elevating platforms with a capacity above the ones existing on the market in 1978 and able to perform offshore exploration and production in water depths up to 90 meters in winter and 120 meters in summer, under environmental conditions equivalent to the ones of North Sea.
General investigations allowed firstly to select the number and shape of legs, the hull shape, the leg arrangement.
For the T 3000 design, an analysis of requirements and an appraising of equipment to be installed enable to define the required areas and the load capacity.
Structural design of hull and leg was carried out from these requirements. The towing stability was checked.
The behaviour of waves was computed and the results were confirmed by model basin tests.
Two versions were considered:
T 3000 : platform designed for exploration drilling, with one drilling package, on slot or cantilever
T 6000 : platform designed for production drilling with two drilling packages on cantilever above a jacket, and also able to be used as a production support.
