Objective
The principal objective of the investigation is to develop the application of composite steel/concrete sandwich construction for offshore engineering in order to exploit the potential benefits of faster construction, more efficient use of material and greater resistance to local loads.
State of the art study and initial modeltesting.
The programme will develop two reference designs of platforom structure, one for an Artic environment and the other for a more benign environment. A design method for composite construction will be developed and the validity checked by a programme of confirmatory structural testing. Certification of the design method will be sought.
