MEDUIM RANGE CIRCULAR POSITIONING SYSTEM

Objective

1 - extension of the power budget of the syledis system in order to reach distances of 80 to 200 milles while keeping a high accuracy (10 to 30 meters).
2 - development of real time on board distance data processing to introduce reliable distance errors correction and kalman filtering through the use of microprocessor techniques (U. C. M. ).
The extension of power budget of the syledis system has been proved effective both for long range extension and reliability and accuracy of distance measurements. The use of space diversity aerials and proper setting up on antennae in conjunction with booster amplifiers has been particularly efficient.
The implementation and use of kalman filtering in ucm was also successful.
From 1976 to 1983 inclusive, the following equipment haas been manufactured and set into operation for oil prospection all over the world:
195 - booster amplifiers and filters
120 - antenna switches for space diversity purpose
140 - ucm microprocessor - controlled unit.

Design of special uhf antenna stacked arrays and space diversity disposition. Development of a high power booster amplifier and improved distance processing techniques. Complements to the "unite de calcul microprogrammee" (u. C. M. ), a microprocessor based on board computer, developed for the syledis system to implement distance errors filtering, coordinate transforms and kalman filtering of the position.
Norwegian companies took part in the activities as subcontractors.
