DEVELOPMENT DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A PIPELINE BOOSTER STATION WITH INTEGRATED WASTE HEAT UTILIZATION

Objective

Realization of a waste heat recovery system using gas turbine exhaust.
The main point of investigation was the decomposition of ammonia. Acceptable rates can be obtained if the ammonia temperature is kept below 300 deg. C. The waste heat recovery system as designed and performed is capable of operating under arctic conditions (ambient temperatures + 25 to - 40 deg. C.) close to predicted performance data.
The prototype plant, using conventional components (boiler, turbine pump, piping system), produces mechanical energy from the waste gas of a gas turbine via a closed process (rankine cycle), with ammonia as a working fluid under operating conditions above and below the critical point. The system extends and supplements an existing natural gas compressor station driving an additional gas compressor. The system was designed to be operated unattended in remote locations.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
