DEVELOPMENT OF A RANGE TWO-STAGE CENTRIFUGAL PUMPS FOR THE TRANSPORT OF CRUDE AND ITS DERIVATES

Objective

To develop a new range of two-stage centrifugal pumps for the transport of crude oil and derivates thereof. The range will be equipped with a rotor which is supported by a bearing at each end of the pump. Compared with the traditional design equipped with an overhung pumprotor, the new pump design incorporates a number of innovative aspects resulting in the following characteristics: low rotorvibration, low sealleakage, long life, low power consumption and low weight.
Thanks to optimized diffusordesign power consumption savings up to 20 % were achieved. Motorweight savings are in accordance with power decrease figures.
The project is divided into the following six phases:(1) orientation phase, (2) innovation phase, (3) development phase, (4) testphase, (5) design and production of initial series casting patterns and (6) production and sales.
Description of the phases:
(1) choice of manufacturing techniques, choice of materials, evaluation of hydraulic features, planning.
(2) further development of hydraulic principles and manufacturing methods, alternative designs.
(3) implementation of results from phases (1) and (2), detailed design work, choice and specification of materials.
(4) production and test of prototype pump, analysis of test results and implementation of resulting design changes in the design of phase (3).
(5) detailed design drawings for the complete range, production of initial casting patterns and pumps, initial test of every pump type and implementqtion of resulting design changes.
(6) normal production and sales.
The main technical aspects of this development project are the following: optimal hydraulic design using CAE/CAD, introduction of very smooth hydraulic surfaces, very high efficiency, modular set-up, capability to cope with every pumped fluid, good mechanical pump behaviour at off-design conditions.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
